It may be my least favorite phrase of all time; ‘fake it ‘til you make it’. The premise may have some merit, but overall, it’s a terrible message. Research proves that people buy for many reasons, but none bigger than TRUST. When we make a conscious decision to buy something we are saying we trust that something or someone.
If you’re in the process of growing your business, and you’re currently in the phase of ‘fake it ‘til you make it’, what happens to those clients that bought in when you were faking it? Once they buy, do they get the real you or are they stuck with the fake you until you reach the point you were ‘faking’ to reach? Confused yet?
Let’s simplify. Regardless of what industry you’re in, if you’re an executive, you’re in sales. If you elect to give everyone you meet the real you (all the time) then you never have to worry about what you told them to get a “yes”.
We teach our children this important lesson; if you tell the truth you don’t have to worry about remembering what lie you told. If you’re over 40 you can legitimately forget the truth, but that’s another matter altogether .
Have you been on LinkedIn or Facebook lately? People spend a ridiculous amount of time pretending to be someone they’re not. I recently saw a “Brand Specialist” that was posting photos of herself in different countries and exotic beaches. I imagine the purpose was to show how the rich & famous live and encourage people to do business with an obvious winner. The problem is she failed to change the background in 9 of 10 photos! It’s just an amazing coincidence the beaches in Brazil, France, and more, have the exact same cloud cover & background.
We operate a successful PEO Brokerage with amazing clients and a ‘can do’ attitude. When what we’re offering makes sense for your business, we will welcome you with open arms. When our products & services aren’t a good fit for your business, we tell you “thanks for the opportunity” and look forward to serving you if or when the time is right.
Here’s a novel concept; be you! If you’ve been in your industry for 6 months don’t try to be a subject matter expert. Be the most energetic, passionate and honest 6-months experienced YOU possible. You don’t build a successful business overnight. You build it brick by brick over time. If you build it on honesty and integrity it will stand the test of time. It will also be fulfilling and a source of pride for all involved.

Handling payroll can be a challenging aspect of running your small business, and the tax law surrounding payroll makes it even more complex. When it comes time to increase an employee’s compensation, consider the possibility of doing so in the form of tax-free fringe benefits. Some employees may consider a supplemental insurance benefit or a employer contributions to a retirement plan of equal, or even greater, value than a pay raise. Contact us today and we can help!
